Okay, I love it. I fully admit it. I’ve been chomping at the bit for weeks to get to tonight, the first night of American Idol. Now I feel a little bit of let down. It’s over. Until tomorrow night and they go to Dallas! Oh, please, don’t embarrass us like San Antonio did last time (was that last year? Time flies).
I’m not going to write an all out critique of the show. I go to MJ’s Big Blog for that. She has got an intense blog about the show from a critique of the show itself (including commercial content) to the current happenings of former contestants and winners to interviews with the producers found in magazines and online. I don’t know who MJ is, but she works HARD and it is well worth reading.
For my two cents worth about tonight’s show, it looks like the judges are going to be cruel again this year. Or somewhat cruel. They ripped apart the poor guy that is a tour guide in Philadelphia when it seemed apparent that he might have a physical deformity that makes him sing oddly (no, don’t send him to Hollywood, but don’t be so mean!), but they were very kind to the poor 16-year-old Temptress who they easily could have been very cruel to (like Simon was with Mandisa).
Again, too much time spent on the truly horrible ones and I really really could have done without the mostly naked guy and his chest wax. Star Wars girl was amusing and I don’t mind at all when they make someone appear stupid without any prompting or snickering. They just let her go and she only hurt herself. Same with old sparkle face.
But I liked the pretty girl from Oregon. Definitely top 12 material and the cute, tall, slim young man with the dreads. He had a lot of charm and talent.
I think tonight may have been the first time Mark and I watched American Idol in “real time.” We have always gotten home later in the evening and watched it. We did wait and start it about 15 minutes late so we could speed through the commercials and there were PLENTY of them. Enough so that we caught up on the 15 minutes before the first hour ended, I think. It will be really interesting to see the results show in the spring “live” with the rest of the world when I don’t have to be at Hill’s for the music series. I hope we have some intense, interesting competition this year. Who won last year? I hardly remember and really don’t care.
Oregon girl.. LOVED her!! she really was precious! But yeah, the chest wax was a bit too disturbing… YIKES!
I only saw the last 30 min, as I was at dinner… but yeah… should be interesting! I’m DVR’ing 2nite, as I fully expect to see you AND your smile tonight at Mercury!!! WootWoot!
