Wow, I was just about to shut things down after Facebooking and checking email and reading the latest news and checking all the little funny sites I like and then I realized I hadn’t written my daily entry for the Holidailies, had I? And I had the whole day to do it!
I took a day of vacation today! Just for me. What a luxury. To not work and to still get paid. Too many people don’t appreciate what a wonderful thing that is.
But what did I do with my wonderful day of vacation? I did sleep late (after getting up to feed the cats since they do not take vacation) and I got to stay up late last night, which is fun in and of itself. I did type a report for a doctor (one of my part-time jobs) and I did do a lot of cleaning on this desk, though I know I said earlier this week I didn’t worry about such things.
What I did not do was get started on the Christmas cards or the fudge or tiger butter or Christmas shopping or getting a haircut or pedicure or making appointments that I intended to make while I was home during business hours. I also didn’t go through our finances, pay bills, read about new insurance we can get. And I didn’t read, relax, or go for a walk.
One really good thing that I did do that I know I would not have done on a regular workday, was to have my neighbor Katie over to sit on the porch and visit. She emailed that we should get together and we did. And since I had the day off I managed to have the candles lit, the Christmas tree looking pretty, and an array of cheeses and crackers and nuts and a nice bottle of wine. It was very festive. I’ve been seeing commercials that feature fancy people in fancy cocktail clothes having fancy parties and I’ve fancied that I wanted to do something like this. I believe this good visit got that out of my system. Mark even came home from a gig while we were still visiting so he got in on the fun.
All in all, it was a good day of vacation and– look!–there are two days of weekend still ahead of me. Plenty of time to do finances, get my toes painted, etc.
